Balcone d'Italia

La Sighignola è un’imponente montagna che si staglia a circa 1300 m sopra il livello del mare, appartiene alla catena montuosa delle Prealpi Luganesi e delimita il confine tra Italia e Svizzera.

L’attrattiva principale di questo colosso naturale è il terrazzo panoramico che si trova proprio sulla linea di confine (ma incluso nel territorio italiano) che si è guadagnato il nome di balcone d’Italia.

Questo luogo incantevole si affaccia direttamente su Lugano e offre ai visitatori una vista panoramica mozzafiato che abbraccia tanto il centro urbano quanto il lago del capoluogo svizzero, il tutto restando circondati dal contesto naturalistico prealpino.

La bellezza e il fascino di questo terrazzo panoramico gli hanno fatto guadagnare un posto fisso tra i luoghi più belli d’Italia secondo il FAI(fondo ambientale italiano). La suggestiva terrazza sembra incastonata tra le rocce e spesso è scelta come location speciale per spettacoli, manifestazioni sportive, congressi ed eventi.

Il versante svizzero è decisamente aspro e scosceso e presenta uno strapiombo di quasi 1000 metri che dà direttamente sul lago di Lugano mentre il versante italiano non si distacca particolarmente dalla piana e si presenta dolce e boschivo.

Arrivarci è semplice e soprattutto il viaggio vale la pena: lo scenario da cartolina rimane negli occhi e nel cuore dei turisti.

E’ una meta adatta a tutti, alle famiglie con figli, a una coppia in cerca di romanticismo, ai single desiderosi di rilassarsi, a coloro che amano godersi il paesaggio in moto e agli appassionati di escursioni in bici.

Il Balcone d’Italia si trova a Lanzo d’Intelvi, si può raggiungere tramite due strade partendo da Gravedona, il mio consiglio è di passare da quella che costeggia il lago fino ad Argegno all’andata, e passare nell’entroterra al ritorno, o vice versa, considerando anche gli orari in cui si vuole andare, dato che la via che fiancheggia il Lario è di norma più trafficata.

Sighignola is an imposing mountain that stands at about 1300 m above sea level, belongs to the mountain range of the Luganese Prealps and delimits the border between Italy and Switzerland.

The main attraction of this natural giant is the panoramic terrace that is located right on the border line (but included in the Italian territory) which has earned the name of “Balcone d’Italia”.

This real locus amoenus faces directly on Lugano and offers visitors a breathtaking panoramic view that embraces both the city center and the lake of Lugano, all while being surrounded by the naturalistic pre-Alpine environment.

The beauty and charm of this panoramic terrace have earned it a permanent place among the most beautiful places in Italy according to the FAI (Italian environmental fund). The suggestive terrace seems set among the rocks and is often chosen as a special location for shows, sporting events, congresses and other events.

The Swiss side is decidedly rugged and steep and has a sheer drop of almost 1000 meters that gives directly to Lake Lugano, while the Italian side is sweet and woody.

Getting there is simple and above all the journey is worthwhile: the picture postcard scene remains in the eyes and in the hearts of tourists.

It's a destination for everyone, for families with children, for a couple looking for romance, for singles eager to relax, for those who like to enjoy the scenery by motorbike and for those who love cycling.

Balcone d’Italia is located in Lanzo d'Intelvi, can be reached through two roads starting from Gravedona, my advice is to go from the one that runs along the lake to Argegno on the way, and go through the hinterland on the way back, or vice versa, considering also the times in which you want to go, since the road that coasts the Lario is normally busier.
